Parents and caregivers can reduce the risk of serious injuries and deaths by up to 80% by making sure children are properly buckled in the correct car seat or booster seat.
Child and Teen Checkups is a federal preventive health care program that entitles recipients of Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare health care programs, aged birth to 21, to annual health care checkups. Family Health staff help families find a "medical home," set up Child and Teen Checkups, and find dentists who will take patients on Medical Assistance.

As part of their work with Environmental Health, Family Health staff investigate and resolve issues related to poor environmental conditions that have the potential to cause or spread disease or illness or cause injury. The Public Health Environmental Health Program is the lead agency in the inspection and follow-up of complaints of Public Health Nuisances, "garbage houses" and other poor environmental conditions. Public health nurses and our Environmental Health Specialist also educate the public about the dangers of lead poisoning and encourage lead poisoning testing and prevention efforts.
